Introduction
A while back, I had the honour of meeting with a Russian Orthodox priest in Toronto — Father Vladimir Malchenko — a wonderful man to whom I am forever grateful.
During our conversation, he asked me, “Are you Serbian?” Of course, I replied, “Yes.”
Then he leaned in and said, “But… not very Serbian?” I almost leaped out of my chair. But before I could react, he laughed.
He said he says that to all Serbs he meets, and most have the same reaction. 😄
It’s true. Most Serbs in the diaspora want to stay connected to their ‘Srpstvo’ . To their Orthodox faith, culture, and homeland.
It seems to be part of our DNA.
And, one triggering question for us can be: “How Serbian are you?”
For us, as a movement dedicated to Serbian culture and connection, we thought we’d lean into this. And have some fun.
